Adult ADHD: A Whole-Person Approach
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent and most underdiagnosed conditions in adults. Many people reach adulthood without ever receiving an accurate diagnosis, having instead accumulated years of frustration, self-doubt, and compensatory strategies that only go so far.
Adult ADHD is frequently missed in high-achieving individuals, women, and those who have developed effective masking behaviors over time. The absence of a childhood diagnosis does not rule out ADHD, nor does a history of academic or professional success.
At Sora Psychiatry, evaluation is thorough and treatment is individualized. We take the time to understand how ADHD presents in your specific context, and build a plan that extends beyond medication alone.
Who Is a Good Fit for Sora Psychiatry?
We work best with adults who:
Are seeking a thorough evaluation rather than a quick diagnosis
Want to understand why they're struggling, not just get a prescription
Are open to a treatment plan that may include lifestyle and supplement components alongside (or instead of) medication
Are comfortable with telehealth and self-pay practice
We do not currently work with children or adolescents or adults over 65 years of age. If you are in crisis or need urgent psychiatric support, please contact your nearest emergency services.

Not necessarily. Neuropsychological testing can be helpful in complex cases, but most adults with ADHD do not require formal testing for an accurate clinical diagnosis. We will let you know if a referral for testing makes sense in your case. Not necessarily. We hear this concern often. High-functioning adults are frequently underdiagnosed because they appear to be "doing fine" while quietly exhausting themselves compensating for ADHD. We work with you to achieve your goals.
How We Treat ADHD
Medication
When appropriate, medication can be a powerful tool. We prescribe and manage stimulant and non-stimulant medications, titrated carefully to find what works for your brain, your schedule, and your lifestyle.
We do not believe in "start this, see you in three months." Medication management at Sora Psychiatry is ongoing, responsive, and part of a larger plan.
Supplements and Nutrition
Certain supplements have meaningful evidence supporting their use in ADHD, including:
Omega-3 fatty acids — one of the most well-studied, with data supporting improvements in attention and hyperactivity
Magnesium — commonly low in individuals with ADHD; supports sleep and emotional regulation
Zinc and iron — deficiencies in both have been linked to ADHD symptom severity
L-theanine — may reduce stimulant side effects and support calmer focus
We review your labs, your diet, and your current supplement regimen to make evidence-based recommendations — not just a long list to spend money on.
Lifestyle Factors
The brain is not separate from the body. For adults with ADHD, these factors have real, measurable impact:
Exercise — perhaps the most underutilized ADHD intervention; even 20 minutes of aerobic exercise can improve focus for hours
Sleep — ADHD and sleep problems are deeply intertwined; poor sleep worsens every ADHD symptom
Nutrition — blood sugar stability affects attention more than most people realize
Reducing inflammatory load — diet, gut health, and chronic stress all influence neurological function
We'll work with you on realistic changes, not a perfect overhaul.
Therapy and Coaching Referrals
Medication and lifestyle changes work best when paired with skill-building. We maintain referral relationships with therapists and ADHD coaches who specialize in CBT for ADHD, executive function, and organizational strategies. If therapy is part of your plan, we'll help you find the right fit.
